
In Lviv, the driver of an Audi Q5 who tried to flee from patrol officers caused a fatal road traffic collision and later told police that he had committed a murder. This was reported by the Patrol Police of the Lviv region.
The incident occurred this morning at around 6 a.m. Patrol officers noticed an Audi Q5 without a front number plate and ordered the driver to stop. The driver ignored the order, accelerated and attempted to escape.
During the pursuit, the driver first collided with a police service vehicle but continued driving. He then caused a head-on collision with a Volkswagen. The driver of that vehicle died at the scene.
After the crash, the suspected offender ran out of the wrecked Audi and tried to flee on foot, but the patrol officers caught up with him and detained him. During the conversation, the man stated that he had committed a murder. Later, information about the death of a woman was confirmed; police are currently establishing her identity.
Investigative and operational teams are working at the scenes. In connection with the offences of intentional murder and violation of road traffic safety rules resulting in the death of a victim, investigators have opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 115 and Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The man was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and investigative actions are ongoing.
