Lviv Police Detain Suspect in Robbery of a Foreigner

In Lviv, police have detained a suspect believed to have robbed a foreigner. The detainee faces a penalty of up to ten years in prison for the offense.

Details of the Incident

On March 4, around five in the morning, police received a report from a 39-year-old foreigner temporarily residing in Lviv, stating that an unknown man on Rynok Square assaulted him and took his wallet, which contained money, a bank card, and documents, before fleeing.

Various police units, including patrol police response teams, criminal police operatives, investigators, and personnel from other services of Lviv’s District Police Department No.1, as well as the Criminal Analysis Directorate and criminal investigation officers of Lviv police, were involved in solving the crime.

Investigation and Arrest

Law enforcement officers conducted a range of operational search activities, reviewed footage from the ‘Safe Lviv’ surveillance camera system, identified the perpetrator’s location, and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The suspect is identified as an 18-year-old resident of Dnipropetrovsk region.

Prosecutors from the Halytsky District Prosecutor’s Office informed the detainee of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 4 of Article 186 (Robbery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for imprisonment from seven to ten years.

Pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

Law enforcement officials reiterate that under martial law conditions, maximum penalties are envisaged for theft, robbery, assault, extortion, and for misappropriation, embezzlement, or seizure of property through abuse of office.
