In Lviv, on Zolota Street, during a domestic conflict, a man, a 33-year-old local resident, was stabbed by his wife. Police have opened criminal proceedings in connection with the incident.
On 19 July, at around midnight, the 102 emergency line received a call from ambulance medics about a man with a stab wound. A crew from the Patrol Police Department of Lviv Region and an investigative team from Police Station No. 1 of Lviv District Police Department No. 1 were dispatched to the address.
Patrol officers provided the victim with first aid and handed him over to the medics. Doctors diagnosed the man with a stab wound to the left side of the chest.
At first, during questioning, the man claimed that he had been injured by an unknown attacker near the entrance to his building, who stabbed him in the chest and fled. However, investigators established that in fact he had been stabbed in the chest by his wife the previous evening during a domestic argument. To divert suspicion from his wife, the injured man made up the story about an unknown assailant.
Investigators from the territorial police unit, under the procedural supervision of the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office, opened criminal proceedings under Article 128 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (negligent infliction of grievous or moderate bodily harm). The article provides for a penalty of between 150 and 240 hours of community service, or up to two years of corrective labour, or up to two years of restriction of liberty, or up to two years of imprisonment.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incident.
