Police detain offender who stabbed his friend in Novoyavorivsk
The detainee, a 29-year-old local resident, faces up to eight years in prison for his crime.
On 20 February, around 00.30, the police received a report that a man had been stabbed in a cafe on Shevchenko Street in Novoyavorivsk.
The investigative team and other officers of the Yavoriv District Police Department were working at the scene.
The police established that a conflict had arisen between local residents aged 22 and 29, who were in the cafe, during which the older man stabbed the younger one in the abdomen. Doctors diagnosed a stab wound to the liver and intra-abdominal bleeding and provided the victim with the necessary assistance. His health and life are currently in no danger.
Investigators of the territorial police unit opened criminal proceedings over the incident under Part 1 of Article 121 (Intentional grievous bodily harm) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for a sentence of imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.
The offender was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
