Goods worth over UAH 4.7 million seized at Shehyni and Krakivets checkpoints

At the Shehyni and Krakivets checkpoints in Lviv region, border guards of the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment, together with customs officers, stopped several attempts to illegally move goods across the state border. According to Lviv Customs, the total estimated value of the seized items exceeds UAH 4.7 million.

The violations were uncovered thanks to prior information from the detachment’s operational staff. At the Shehyni checkpoint, during an inspection of a Mercedes minibus travelling from Poland to Ternopil, 247 used laptops of various manufacturers were found in the luggage compartment. The 45-year-old woman driving the vehicle had not declared the equipment and said she was transporting it for subsequent sale. The preliminary value of the goods was put at around UAH 3 million.

The same day in Shehyni, during the inspection of another vehicle, 22 units of musical instruments and musical equipment of various brands were found among personal belongings. They were being transported by a 58-year-old woman driving from Poland to Lviv. The estimated value of these goods is about UAH 200,000.

At the Krakivets checkpoint, during an inspection of a Mercedes minibus, border guards and customs officers found 285 vials of powder for preparing injectable solutions. According to the 25-year-old driver, he had received the goods in Estonia as a consignment to be delivered to Chernivtsi. The estimated value of the seized items is about UAH 600,000.

In another Mercedes minibus travelling from Germany to Lviv, law enforcement officers discovered 381 units of cosmetic care products that had not been declared in the customs declaration. The preliminary value of this consignment was assessed at UAH 350,000.

In addition, at Krakivets, during the inspection of a minibus travelling from the United Kingdom to Ivano-Frankivsk, officers found 207 units of a medicinal product and 70,000 needles for hand-stitching leather. According to the 35-year-old driver, this consignment was also a delivery. The total value of these goods is about UAH 560,000.

In all the identified cases, customs officers drew up reports on breaches of customs regulations, and the undeclared goods were seized and transferred to the customs warehouse.
