
At the Krakivets checkpoint on the border with Poland, over the course of a day, border guards of the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment together with customs officers uncovered two attempts to smuggle tobacco products in Mercedes passenger cars.
During an in-depth inspection of the two vehicles, driven by a 53-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, both residents of Lviv region, inspectors using special equipment for examining hard-to-reach areas found specially equipped hiding places in the side sills of the cars.
Cigarettes concealed from control were found in the caches. From the first car, 61 packs were seized, and from the second, a further 110 packs of tobacco products. According to the drivers, the load was travelling from Lviv region to Poland for subsequent sale. The final value of the assessed products is being established.
In connection with the detected offences, customs officers drew up reports on the violations. The tobacco products were seized and transferred to a customs warehouse for further storage and procedural processing.
