In the city of Sambir in Lviv region, a 47-year-old resident of Kharkiv was killed after being hit by a Volkswagen Golf. The police have opened criminal proceedings in connection with the incident.
The road traffic accident occurred on 1 August at around 01:25 on Chornovola Street in Sambir. According to preliminary information from law enforcement officers, a 20-year-old local resident, driving a Volkswagen Golf, ran into a pedestrian, a 47-year-old resident of the city of Kharkiv.
As a result of the collision, the man sustained bodily injuries from which he died at the scene.
Investigators from the Department for the Investigation of Transport-Related Offences of the Investigative Directorate of the Lviv Region Police have opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of road safety regulations or the operation of transport by persons driving vehicles.
The article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of three to eight years, with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years or without such deprivation. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
