In the village of Horishnii near Lviv, a man died in a flat fire

In the village of Horishnii in Lviv district, a fire broke out at night in a flat in a multi-storey building, during which a 61-year-old man died and a 54-year-old woman was taken to hospital.

According to the rescuers, on 14 June at 03:47 the Rescue Service received a report of a fire in a flat on the seventh floor of an eight-storey residential building. Thick smoke was coming from the flat and the stairwell was rapidly filling with combustion products.

Fire and rescue units from Lviv arrived at the scene. Using specialist tools, firefighters opened the front door and began extinguishing the blaze. The seat of the fire was located near the entrance to the flat, where household items were burning over an area of about 50 sq m, including an electric scooter. The flat was completely filled with toxic combustion products.

During the search, in one of the rooms rescuers found a 61-year-old man, whom they carried out of the smoke-filled flat and handed over to medics. Doctors confirmed his death. In another room, a 54-year-old woman with weak signs of life was lying on a bed. Emergency workers carried the casualty out of the danger zone using a rescue device and handed her over to emergency medical staff. The woman was taken to the Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital.

For the safety of the building’s residents, rescuers led another four people from the seventh and eighth floors out into the fresh air. The fire was contained at 04:24 and completely extinguished at 04:29.

Fifteen rescuers and three units of specialist equipment were involved in tackling the blaze. Law enforcement officers are establishing the causes and circumstances of the fire.
