In the village of Stodilky, Lviv district, an item resembling an obsolete munition was discovered during earthworks on the grounds of a private household. The dangerous object was lying a few metres from a residential building.
An emergency service officer from the local community arrived at the scene and established that the item found was an 82 mm mortar round dating back to the Second World War.
That same day, explosives experts from the Mobile Rapid Response Rescue Centre “Lviv” of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine removed the munition and destroyed it in the prescribed manner.
Rescuers emphasise that such finds are still occurring, and old munitions remain dangerous for decades.
