In the village of Zavadka in the Stryi district, during earthworks near a residential building, Second World War munitions were discovered. Rescuers were informed about the dangerous find on 22 July at 18:10.
According to the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Lviv region, an object resembling a 50 mm mortar shell was found at a distance of about 5 metres from the house. Community rescue officers arrived at the scene, inspected the area and submitted a request for the disposal of explosive objects to specialists from the pyrotechnic unit of the Lviv Mobile Rapid Response Rescue Centre of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
Pyrotechnic experts additionally surveyed the area and discovered a total of 7 units of 50 mm mortar shells dating back to the Second World War. All the munitions were removed and destroyed in the prescribed manner.
Rescuers remind citizens of the need to follow safety rules when discovering suspicious objects: do not touch them, do not move them, do not attempt to dismantle or neutralise them yourself, and do not throw them into a fire, as this is deadly dangerous.
If you discover a potentially explosive object, you should immediately inform the rescue service on 101 or the police on 102.
