As law enforcement officers found out, during the conflict, the detainee stabbed his victim in the neck with the sharp edge of a broken glass bottle, causing severe injuries, and then tried to stage the incident as an accident. He faces a sentence of up to fifteen years in prison for his actions.
Law enforcement officers identified the wounded man as a 30-year-old resident of Shehyni village, Yavoriv district.
The investigative team and officers of other services of the Police Department No. 1 of the Yavoriv District Police Department were involved in solving the crime. The investigative measures established that on July 27, around one in the morning, in the village of Shehyni, a conflict arose between the victim and his 25-year-old acquaintance, a fellow villager with whom they were drinking alcohol, during which the younger man broke a glass bottle and stabbed the older man in the neck with its sharp edge, causing bodily harm.
The attacker told law enforcement officers that the victim’s injuries were the result of an accident – he allegedly fell on the broken bottle. However, after examining the CCTV footage, the police found out what really happened and detained the man in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural supervision of the Yavoriv District Prosecutor’s Office, served him a notice of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 15 – Part 1 of Article 115 (attempted murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to fifteen years.
