In Sokal, a Man Detained for Possession of F-1 Grenade

In Sokal, police detained a man who illegally possessed an F-1 grenade.

Bomb disposal experts seized the ammunition, the origin of which is still being established. The detainee faces three to seven years of imprisonment for the crime.

According to the police, on July 11, in the town of Sheptytsky, an unknown man approached a shop assistant with a request to temporarily hide his F-1 grenade with a detonator. *”The frightened woman reported the incident to the store owner, who, in turn, called the police for help,”* the police stated.

Law enforcement identified the perpetrator as a 26-year-old resident of one of the district’s villages and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Officers from the explosive technical department of the Lviv police confiscated the F-1 grenade with the fuse and sent it for examination to the Lviv Scientific Research Expert Forensic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

Investigators from the territorial unit, under the procedural guidance of the prosecution authorities, informed the detainee of suspicion in committing the crime laid out in part 1 of article 263 (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for imprisonment from three to seven years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement is determining the origin of the ammunition.
