Fleeing in a stolen VAZ car, the detainee, a 29-year-old resident of the Ivano-Frankivsk region, ran into a policeman who was trying to block his movement. The perpetrator is liable to imprisonment for up to five years.
On May 11, around 17:00, the operative line 102 received a report that in the village of Sokilnyky, Lviv district, an unknown man, having broken a window in the door, illegally took possession of a VAZ-21099 car.
The “Interception” plan was announced – the response crews of the patrol police of the territorial units of the police of the Lviv region, employees of the Security Police Department in the Lviv region, as well as patrol policemen were involved in the pursuit of the stolen car.
Around 5:15 p.m., in the village of Lysovychi, Stryi District, an attacker ran over a police officer of the Security Police Department in Lviv Region, who, together with other police officers, was blocking the movement of a stolen vehicle. As a result of the collision, the law enforcement officer was injured and was later taken to the hospital.
After continuing the pursuit, police officers of the patrol police of the Stryi district police department blocked the fugitive’s car and detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The detainee was identified as a 29-year-old resident of the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
According to the fact, the investigators of the Police Department No. 3 of the Lviv District Police Department opened criminal proceedings under part 1 of Article 289 (Illegal possession of a vehicle) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – restriction of freedom for a period of three to five years or deprivation of liberty for the same period.
In addition, investigators of the Stryi district police department opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 345 (Threat or violence against a law enforcement officer) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum punishment provided by the sanction of this article is up to five years of imprisonment.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, soon the court will choose a preventive measure for the detainee.
