
In the town of Sosnivka in the Sheptytskyi district, a drunk driver of a Jeep Cherokee ran into pedestrians, as a result of which two people were taken to hospital. The police reported this.
The road traffic collision occurred on 31 July at around 01:00 in Sosnivka. According to preliminary police findings, a 37-year-old local resident, driving a Jeep Cherokee, hit two pedestrians – a man and a woman aged 34 and 33, residents of the town.
As a result of the collision, both pedestrians sustained bodily injuries and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Police established that at the time of the collision the Jeep driver was under the influence of alcohol. He was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators of the Sheptytskyi District Police Department have opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of road traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by persons driving vehicles while intoxicated. The article provides for a penalty of up to three years’ imprisonment with disqualification from driving for a period of three to five years.
Pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings is ongoing.
