In Sosnivka, law enforcement and medics rescued two children who were left alone in a locked apartment without adult supervision. The children were an 8-year-old girl and her one-and-a-half-month-old baby brother.
The incident occurred on December 29 in the afternoon. Police received a report that a young child was calling for help from the window of an apartment building on Teatralna Street. The girl shouted that she and her baby brother were locked inside without any adults.
Responding officers discovered the following:
- An 8-year-old girl and a 1.5-month-old boy;
- Both children were exhausted and frightened;
- There was no food in the apartment.
Medical personnel hospitalized both children. They are currently under medical supervision and receiving necessary care.
Preliminary investigation revealed that their mother, a 30-year-old resident of Sheptytske, had left the children alone in the apartment the day before and had not returned. Her current whereabouts are unknown.
Police investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Sheptytske District Prosecutor’s Office, have launched a pre-trial investigation under Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — willful neglect of child care responsibilities.
Police are searching for the woman and working to establish the full circumstances of the incident
