In Stebnyk, a suspect in the unlawful taking of a Daewoo Lanos has been detained

In Stebnyk, police officers detained a 23-year-old resident of the Drohobych district, who is suspected of the unlawful taking of a Daewoo Lanos car. This was reported by the Drohobych District Police Department and the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

According to law enforcement officers, on 28 June at around 18:30, a Daewoo Lanos car, which the owner had left in the premises, was stolen from a garage on Sichovykh Striltsiv Street in the town of Stebnyk. On discovering that the vehicle was missing, the man contacted the police.

To solve the crime, officers from the criminal police, investigators and staff of other units of the Drohobych District Police Department were involved. In the course of their actions, law enforcement officers found the stolen Daewoo Lanos on the roadside within the town limits: the perpetrator lost control, veered off the carriageway, damaged the car and fled.

Soon afterwards, the police established the fugitive’s whereabouts and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Under the procedural guidance of the Drohobych District Prosecutor’s Office, the 23-year-old resident of the Drohobych district was notified that he is suspected under Part 1 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unlawful taking of a vehicle).

The sanction of this article provides for a penalty of restriction of liberty for a term of three to five years, or imprisonment for the same term. The recovered vehicle has been seized and placed in a special impound lot, and the pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
