In Stryi, two drunken drivers beat policemen, injuring them

Being in a state of alcohol intoxication, the driver and the passenger of the car attacked the policemen and caused them bodily harm. The detainee faces up to five years in prison for the crime.

On September 27, around one o’clock in the morning, on Sichovyh Striltsiv Street in the city of Stryi, while patrolling the service area, the policemen of the response department of the patrol police of the Stryi District Police Department found a VAZ 2104 car, the driver of which was driving with numerous violations of the Traffic Rules.

Law enforcement officers stopped the vehicle and during the document check found that the driver, a 32-year-old resident of Zakarpattia Oblast, was intoxicated.

During the registration of documents on an administrative offense, the driver and his passenger, also a 31-year-old resident of Transcarpathia, behaved aggressively, attacked the police officers and caused them bodily harm.

Additional crews of the response department arrived at the scene, as well as the investigative and operational group of the Stryi district police department. The law enforcement officers detained the perpetrators in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Further examination confirmed that both detainees were intoxicated.

Investigators of the territorial division of the police, under the procedural guidance of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, informed the perpetrators of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense, provided for in Part 2 of Art. 345 (Threat or violence against a law enforcement officer) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for a punishment – restriction of freedom for a term of up to five years or deprivation of liberty for the same term.

In addition, the Lada driver was charged with administrative offenses under Article 130 (Driving a vehicle by persons under the influence of alcohol) of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses and under Article 126 (Driving a vehicle by a person who does not have relevant documents for the right to drive such a vehicle) of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and soon the court will choose preventive measures for the suspects.
