
In Stryi, law enforcement officers identified and detained a man suspected of deliberately setting fire to a lorry on Halytska Street.
The report of the fire reached the police on 29 June at around 07:30. An investigative team, forensic specialists, a dog handler and officers from other units of the Stryi District Police Department attended the scene.
A Renault Magnum tractor unit with a Samro semi-trailer was on fire. The blaze almost completely destroyed the cab of the vehicle, which belongs to a local resident and had been parked without moving for a long time. It was established that the fire was caused by arson.
According to law enforcement officers, the crime involved a 23-year-old resident of Stryi. He entered the cab of the tractor unit, set fire with a lighter to a down duvet inside and fled. It is noted that the arson was committed out of hooligan motives.
Police established the suspect’s whereabouts and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural guidance of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, served the detainee with a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional destruction or damage to property). The article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of three to ten years.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and in the near future the court is to choose a preventive measure for the suspect, the Stryi District Police Department reported.
