The driver is liable to imprisonment for a term of three to eight years.
On November 6, around 8:00 p.m., the police received a report that an unknown driver, driving a truck, ran over a female pedestrian on the highway “Kyiv-Chop” in the city of Stryi on Halytskyi Street and drove on. The victim died at the scene from her injuries.
The police identified the deceased as a 40-year-old resident of Mukachevo.
Detectives of the criminal police and crews of the response sector of the patrol police of the Stryi district police department, as well as employees of the Department of Criminal Analysis of the Lviv Oblast police, were involved in establishing the identity of the truck driver and searching for the car that was hit.
As a result of the measures taken, after studying the recordings of video surveillance cameras located within the framework of the “Safe Lviv Region” program, the law enforcement officers established that the collision was committed by a Volvo truck with a semi-trailer. The police found this car in the village of Kozyova, stopped it and took it to the detention center.
The identity of the driver has been established – he turned out to be a 52-year-old resident of Transcarpathia.
According to the fact, the investigators of the Department of Investigation of Crimes in the Field of Transport of the Lviv Oblast Police opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of Traffic Safety Rules) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a period of three to eight years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of up to three years or without it.
The pre-trial investigation continues, law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incident.
