In Stryi, a 30-year-old local resident has been sentenced to an actual term of imprisonment for organising the illegal transfer of a man across the state border of Ukraine. This was reported by the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office.
The court found the man guilty under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and imposed a sentence of 3.5 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property. In addition, he has been barred for 3 years from holding positions related to the control of the crossing of the state border by individuals, vehicles and the movement of cargo.
It was established that last year the convicted man, seeking additional income, offered an acquaintance help with leaving Ukraine. During several meetings in crowded places, he assured him that he had a wide circle of contacts and would be able to organise an illegal border crossing. The cost of the “service” was 13,500 US dollars, part of which the man planned to keep for himself, and the rest allegedly to pass on to the “perpetrators”.
It is noted that the Stryi resident did not disclose the details of the plan in advance, but promised that the departure would take place by car through official checkpoints and that “there would be no need to go on foot”.
The plan could not be carried out: law enforcement officers detained the “smuggler” under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine immediately after he received the agreed sum of money. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the Stryi District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region, with operational support provided by the Security Service of Ukraine Office in Lviv Region. The court’s verdict has already entered into legal force.
