In the city of Stryi, in the Stryi district, a fire broke out in a flat in a block of flats; due to smoke in the stairwell, residents were unable to leave the building on their own. The Rescue Service was informed about the fire on the fourth floor of a five-storey residential building on 20 September at 03:53.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, smoke was coming from the flat window and the stairwell was filled with smoke. Because of this, people could not evacuate by themselves, so emergency workers used rescue hoods to bring 2 people out into the fresh air, and they also escorted another 8 residents during the evacuation.
The fire in the flat on the fourth floor was contained at 04:16, and completely extinguished at 04:27. The flames destroyed household items over an area of about 5 sq. m.
Nine firefighters and 3 units of special equipment were deployed to tackle the blaze. According to the firefighters, no one was injured as a result of the incident.
