In Stryi, on Shevchenka Street, a fatal road traffic collision occurred in which a cyclist was killed. The incident was recorded on 16 August at around 11:45.
According to preliminary police information, a Fiat Tipo driven by a 29-year-old woman from Drohobych collided with a bicycle ridden by a 65-year-old resident of Drohobych.
The cyclist sustained bodily injuries and was taken to hospital where, despite the medical care provided, he died.
Initial findings indicate that the driver was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
Investigators from the Transport Crime Investigation Unit of the Lviv Region Police have opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of road safety rules or vehicle operation by persons driving while intoxicated). The article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of five to ten years, with disqualification from driving for the same period.
Law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
