Suspect detained in Stryi over robbery of passer-by

In Stryi, police have detained a 32-year-old local resident suspected of robbing a passer-by near a bus stop on Nezalezhnosti Street. He faces up to ten years in prison for the offence. This was reported by the Stryi District Police Department.

The crime report was received by police on 13 August from a 59-year-old Stryi resident. According to the victim, the previous day, 12 August at around 21:00, an unknown man attacked him near a public transport stop on Nezalezhnosti Street, struck him in the face, openly seized his mobile phone and fled.

To establish the identity of the attacker, operatives from the criminal police, investigators and staff from other units of the Stryi District Police Department, as well as officers from the criminal analysis department of the Lviv region police, were involved. Law enforcement officers reviewed footage from the CCTV cameras of the “Safe Lviv Region” system, identified the suspect’s whereabouts and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Material evidence was seized from the man.

Investigators, under the procedural supervision of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, have notified the detainee that he is suspected of committing an offence under Part 4 of Article 186 (robbery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of this article provides for a sentence of imprisonment for a term of seven to ten years. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
