Lviv resident suspected of armed robbery of driver detained in Vynnyky

In the town of Vynnyky on 10 August at around 12:40, an unknown man, threatening with an object resembling a pistol, attempted to rob a 52-year-old local resident who was in a Mercedes-Benz car. The driver pulled away sharply and managed to escape from the attacker, after which he sought assistance from the police. This was reported by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

To establish the suspect’s identity and detain him, operatives from the criminal police, investigators and officers of other units of Lviv District Police Department No.1 were deployed, as well as detectives from the criminal investigation department and the criminal analysis unit of the Lviv Region Police.

Law enforcement officers established the whereabouts of the 41-year-old Lviv resident and detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The arrest was carried out with the tactical support of special police units of the Lviv Region.

Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural guidance of the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office, notified the man that he is suspected of committing a criminal offence under Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (robbery with violence). The maximum penalty provided for by this article is imprisonment for a term of up to fifteen years with confiscation of property.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and a decision is being made on the choice of a preventive measure for the suspect.
