Lviv region: Police expose offender suspected of “selling” non-existent biofuel
The offender defrauded a “client” of over UAH 370 thousand.
Law enforcement officers found that a 27-year-old resident of Stebnyk posted ads on the Internet offering to sell wood products, including fuel pallets in the form of pellets. However, he did not actually have the goods in stock, and embezzled the money received from the victim.
In this way, the suspect defrauded the “client”, who intended to purchase biofuel, for a total amount of over UAH 370 thousand.
The offender was exposed by operatives of the Cybercrime Department in Lviv region jointly with investigators of the Drohobych District Police Department, under the procedural supervision of the Drohobych District Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigators served the offender a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense stipulated by Part 3 Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty provided by the sanction of the article is imprisonment for up to five years.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
