At the Krakivets checkpoint, border guards of the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment together with customs officers found an icon of the Kazan Mother of God.
This was reported by the State Border Guard Service.
A 24-year-old native of Sumy region tried to smuggle the icon into Ukraine. The man allegedly picked up the icon in the Netherlands and was supposed to deliver it to Kyiv. The icon, measuring 55 by 115 cm, was found among personal belongings in the luggage compartment of a Mercedes car.
Customs officers seized the icon and drew up a report on violation of customs rules.
