Murder of a couple in Sheptytskyi district – suspect is detained as a measure of restraint
Under the procedural supervision of the Chervonohrad District Prosecutor’s Office, a 36-year-old resident of Sheptytskyi district was served a notice of suspicion. He is charged with premeditated murder, theft and illegal seizure of a vehicle (Part 2 of Article 115, Part 4 of Article 185, Part 2 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, in September-October 2024, the suspect broke into the house of a fellow villager and stole a hunting shotgun with ammunition from the safe. He also stole a camouflage suit, binoculars, mobile phones, a knife, a military first aid kit and a headlamp.
Later, a few days later, the man killed the couple in their home near a village in Sheptytskyi district.
The suspect first shot the woman, who was in the kitchen, with a firearm. Later, he found the man in the yard and shot him. The victims died at the scene from their injuries.
The man then took possession of the couple’s car and fled the crime scene.
Thanks to the coordinated actions of law enforcement officers, the suspect was found and detained.
At the request of the prosecutor, the most stringent measure of restraint was chosen for the suspect – custody without the right to be released on bail.
The investigation is ongoing.
The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of the Police Department No. 1 of the Chervonohrad District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region.
Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person shall be presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
