The prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office defended in the appeals court the most severe punishment for the resident of Zhytomyr – life imprisonment. He was convicted of premeditated murder committed with particular cruelty (clause 4, part 2, article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Prosecutors proved in court that in March 2021, the convict brutally dealt with his 19-year-old girlfriend.
For this purpose, the man came to Lviv, where he rented an apartment and invited the victim to visit him.
During the meeting, a conflict arose between the couple again, during which the accused inflicted more than twenty stab wounds to the victim’s heart and chest. The latter died on the spot from her injuries.
To hide the commission of the crime, he extended the rent of the apartment for another day, and fled from the scene of the crime, taking all his belongings and the tools of the crime.
The defense party did not agree with the specified sentence and filed an appeal, in which it asked to cancel the sentence.
After hearing the arguments of the parties, the appellate court supported the position of the prosecutor’s office, dismissed the defendant’s appeal, and left the sentence imposed by the court of first instance unchanged.
During the pre-trial investigation and trial, the convict was in custody.
