Murderers of pensioner couple in Lviv sentenced to life imprisonment

Premeditated murder of pensioner couple and robbery – prosecutors defend fair punishment for perpetrators in appeal

Following the principled position of the prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the Court of Appeal upheld the sentence of two men found guilty of the premeditated murder of two people and robbery (paragraphs 1, 6, 12 of Part 2 of Article 115, Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

They were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Prosecutors proved in court that in 2020, in Lviv, the defendants seized the property of a retired couple and implemented a murder plan.

To do this, they arranged a meeting with the victims, allegedly under the pretext of inspecting their home for further rent. Once inside the apartment, the attacker stabbed the owners numerous times, killing them on the spot.

At that time, his accomplice was keeping an eye on the street.

The defendants then took the valuables of a 67-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman who were with them, as well as the keys to another apartment where the victims lived. They subsequently broke in and stole property worth over UAH 80,000.

The defence appealed against the verdict, asking for it to be cancelled and the case to be sent for a new trial.

The Lviv Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal in its entirety, upheld the prosecutors’ position and upheld the verdict of the first instance court.
