Since the beginning of the year, Lviv police have drawn up 2,393 reports for deliberately false calls to special services

Law enforcers remind that in accordance with Article 183 (deliberately false call to special services) of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences, such illegal actions are subject to administrative liability – a fine of fifty to two hundred tax-free minimum incomes (UAH 850 to 3400).

This was reported to Holos Sokalshchyny by the Lviv Oblast Police.

False calls mostly relate to domestic violence – citizens call the 102 hotline, report that their relative is involved in a conflict or even a fight, and when law enforcement arrives at the scene, the fact is not confirmed.

False calls to special services are often made by people under the influence of alcohol or drugs. For example, a 27-year-old resident of Yavoriv, while under the influence of drugs, reported the illegal seizure of his car, which did not actually happen.

Sometimes there are complaints about violations of public order, silence, rules of staying in public places (drinking alcohol, foul language, etc.), etc. When the police arrive at the scene, the complainants retract their statements.

However, there are cases when false reports of grave and especially grave crimes, bodily harm and even murder are received, which are also not confirmed later.

Law enforcement officers respond to each such report – patrol police response teams, district police officers and community police officers, sometimes investigative teams and officers of other police services, employees of the State Emergency Service and medics are involved.

Inspections, surveys, even evacuations are carried out. But the main thing is that law enforcement officers cannot be there when people really need their help, responding to a false report.

Therefore, we urge citizens to make sure that the information is accurate before reporting crimes or offences to the hotline.
