A 27-year-old resident of Stryi used the victim’s SIM card to take out loans and stole the money from them

Following a public prosecution by the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, a 27-year-old local resident was found guilty.

He was convicted of theft, fraud, as well as unauthorised interference with automated systems, which led to information leakage and violation of the established procedure for its routing (Article 185(2), Article 190(3), Article 361(1), (2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

He was sentenced to 6 years in prison.

Prosecutors proved in court that in August 2021, the convict stole a mobile phone with a SIM card from a resident of the district. On the same day, he sold the phone and kept the card. Subsequently, using the latter, the man gained access to the personal account of Privat24 and, accordingly, the victim’s bank accounts.

Subsequently, the offender made two financial transactions in this system allegedly from the bank account holder – he took out consumer loans. The funds were credited to one of the victim’s accounts. Later, the man transferred the money to the cards of other people, who withdrew it and gave it to him in cash.

The convict had been previously convicted for committing property crimes, had an outstanding criminal record and was in custody, but did not take the path of correction.

The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Investigation Department of the Stryi District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region.
