Lviv resident to be tried for stealing almost UAH 900,000 from stepfather

Prosecutors of the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office of Lviv have sent to court an indictment against a 23-year-old local resident on the facts of committing theft and unauthorised interference with information (automated) systems (Part 4 of Article 185, Part 2 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation established that the defendant, using his stepfather’s SIM card, stole funds from the latter’s bank account.

To do this, the defendant, having gained access to the bank account management, linked the bank card to a mobile payment application. In this way, he was able to freely dispose of the victim’s funds.

The man disposed of the stolen money at his own discretion, including making a number of purchases.

The total amount of damage caused to the victim is almost UAH 900 thousand.

The man is currently in custody at the request of the prosecution.

The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region.

Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person shall be presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
