Conscript tried to bribe a border guard for USD 5 thousand at a checkpoint with Slovakia

Under the procedural supervision of the Transcarpathian Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region, a 26-year-old native of Poltava region was served a notice of suspicion of providing an illegal benefit for committing any action by an official in the interests of the person providing such benefit, using his/her official position, committed by a group of persons (Part 3 Art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, the suspect, who wanted to travel to Slovakia despite the restrictions of martial law, tried to bribe a border guard for USD 5,000. In exchange for this money, the latter was supposed to help him cross the border without hindrance outside the checkpoint. Instead, the inspector reported the offer to law enforcement officers, who documented the crime.

A conscript who wanted to leave the country during the war was exposed when he provided an official with a stipulated amount of money. He was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine. A custody with the right to be released on bail has been chosen as a measure of restraint.

The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in Zakarpattia region with the operational support of the Strategic Investigations Department of the State Secret Service of Ukraine and the Internal Security Department of the 94th Border Guard Detachment (Chop) of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

Note: in accordance with part one of Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person shall be presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
