The accident occurred today, 17 September, at around 06.50 a.m., on the Ternopil-Lviv-Rava-Ruska motorway near Zolochiv.
Law enforcement officers have preliminarily established that the driver of a Volkswagen Passat, a 63-year-old resident of Kirovohrad Oblast, lost control, drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a MAN truck driven by a 57-year-old resident of Lviv Oblast. The uncontrolled car then collided with a Mercedes-Benz truck driven by a 34-year-old resident of Stryi district.
The driver of the car and his passenger, an 18-year-old resident of Kirovohrad region, died at the scene from the injuries sustained in the accident.
Investigators of the Transport Crimes Investigation Department of the Lviv Police opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of the rules of road safety) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with or without deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.
