Police have informed a driver suspected of a fatal accident in Sambir and fleeing the scene.
The traffic incident occurred on October 4, around 03:45, on Promyslova Street in Sambir. An unidentified driver, operating a BMW X5, lost control and veered into a ditch, causing the vehicle to overturn. As a result of the accident, a 21-year-old passenger from Sambir sustained injuries and died at the scene. The driver fled the scene.
Investigators of the criminal police, the department for investigating transportation-related crimes of Lviv police, and officers of the criminal analysis department of Lviv police were engaged in the search for him. Through their efforts, law enforcement established that the vehicle was driven by a 40-year-old resident of Sambir district.
Investigators from the transportation crime investigation department of Lviv police, under the procedural guidance of the Lviv regional prosecutor’s office, informed the perpetrator of being suspected of criminal misconduct under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of Traffic Safety Rules) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for a penalty of imprisonment from three to eight years with a potential disqualification from driving for up to three years or without such.
The court has ordered the suspect to be held in custody with bail option. Pretrial investigation is ongoing.
