A Village Council Leader in Lviv Region Exposed for Bribery

In the Lviv region, the head of a village council and his accomplice were exposed for demanding 1 million UAH for land.

On December 2nd of this year, under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the head of one of the village councils in the Lviv district and his accomplice were exposed. According to the investigation, the leader of the local government body, together with a trusted individual, demanded and received an undue benefit in the amount of 1 million UAH from an entrepreneur. For this sum, they promised to provide agricultural land for use without proper documentation and without adopting a corresponding decision by the council session. This concerns plots with a total area of 135 hectares, located within the territorial community.

The undue benefit was received by the official and his accomplice at an agreed location – near the administrative building of the local government body. Both were detained immediately after receiving the money, in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Currently, initial investigative and procedural actions are being carried out. The issue of notifying the men of suspicions and choosing preventive measures is being resolved. They are charged with demanding and receiving an undue benefit by an official in an especially large amount (Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The pre-trial investigation is conducted by investigators of the Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region with operational support from the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region. According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until proven guilty in a legal manner and established by a court’s conviction.
