Under the procedural leadership of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the deputy chief of the criminal police sector of one of the regional police departments of the Lviv Region was exposed and informed of the suspicion of soliciting and receiving illegal benefits (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the police officer demanded and received 3,000 US dollars for not bringing a person to criminal responsibility and closing the criminal proceedings.
In particular, in March of this year, a fight took place in one of Lviv’s restaurants, as a result of which one of the visitors received minor injuries. Criminal proceedings have been opened based on this fact.
In the future, despite the absence of any claims from the injured party, the official demanded that the father of one of the participants in the fight be given an undue advantage. In case of refusal to provide the funds, the law enforcement officer promised to prosecute his son.
Immediately after receiving an illegal benefit, the law enforcement officer was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. The issue of selecting a preventive measure for the detainee and removing him from his post is being resolved.
The pre-trial investigation is carried out by the investigators of the territorial department of the SBU in the city of Lviv, operational support is carried out by the SBU Department in the Lviv region. The primary investigative actions were carried out with the active support of the leadership of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv Region.
Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
