Under the procedural leadership of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, within the framework of criminal proceedings, a search was conducted in 2 rented non-residential premises (part 1 of Article 203-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, a group of people in Lviv organized the illegal activities of poker clubs. There they played cash games for money with a rake charge – a fee from the player. They passed it off as sports poker tournaments. Access to the latter was granted to visitors only with the personal permission of the organizers.
As a result of the searches, the law enforcement officers seized poker tables, decks of cards, chips, computer equipment, club cards, cash, drafts, documentation and other material evidence.
The amount of seized equipment, including cash, is about UAH 1.3 million.
Investigations are ongoing. The question of notifying the accused about suspicion is being resolved. Measures aimed at exposing other persons involved in the crime are being taken.
The crime was exposed by the prosecutor’s office together with the Territorial Department of the Security Intelligence Service in the Lviv Region, operational support is provided by the Strategic Investigations Department in the Lviv Region of the National Security Service of Ukraine.
Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
