According to a public indictment by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a citizen of Ukraine was found guilty of treason, participation in a terrorist organization, and the activities of armed groups not provided for by law (parts 1, 2 of article 111, part 1 of article 258-3, part 2 of article 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
He was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The prosecutor proved in court that in February 2022, a resident of Luhansk region voluntarily switched to the side of the enemy and joined the illegal paramilitary formation of the so-called “LPR”. The man served in the rifle regiment of the “People’s Militia” and performed the duties of an assistant grenade launcher.
During his service, the convict assisted the Russian Federation and its representatives in carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine. The latter performed tasks related to the conduct of hostilities against the Armed Forces and duties to ensure various types and forms of combat. From the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he fought in populated areas of Luhansk, Donetsk, and Kharkiv regions.
It should be noted that the person involved already had “experience” in this regard. During 2015-2018, he participated in the illegal armed formation of the LPR terrorist organization in the territory controlled by the militants, for which he was previously convicted.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out by the investigators of the SBU Office in the Lviv region.
