USD 20,000 for crossing the border: Lviv region: police block a channel for illegal departure of a person liable for military service from Ukraine
For this amount, a 60-year-old resident of Truskavets undertook to produce a package of documents for a man of military age that would allow him to cross the state border of Ukraine at a checkpoint and travel to one of the EU countries.
The offender was exposed by investigators of the General Criminal Investigation Department of the Lviv Police Investigation Department jointly with operatives of the SBU Office in Lviv region, under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
On 12 September, law enforcement officers detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine in Sambir after receiving USD 20,000 from a “client”.
The detainee was served a notice of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 332 (Illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to nine years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
