In the Lviv region over the past 24 hours, firefighters have extinguished 21 fires. Nine of them broke out in natural ecosystems, where the flames destroyed more than 8,800 square metres of land.
Work is still under way to extinguish peat fires near the village of Zeliv in Yavoriv district and the village of Sytykhiv in Lviv district. Firefighters are on site every day to fully eliminate the remaining pockets of fire.
Emergency services are urging local residents to act responsibly and strictly observe fire safety rules: do not leave open flames unattended, do not light campfires in prohibited areas, do not burn dry vegetation or rubbish, and carefully monitor the safe use of electrical appliances and heating equipment.
The rescue service stresses that it is easier to prevent fires than to deal with their consequences.
