In the Lviv region, law enforcement officers exposed doctors who demanded a bribe from a military serviceman
As determined by the employees of the particularly serious crimes investigation department (detectives) of the investigative department of the police of Lviv region together with the operatives of the Security Service of Ukraine, under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the military and defense spheres of the Western region, employees of one of the medical institutions of Lviv region received an illegal benefit from a serviceman for recognizing him as limited suitable for service.
Two doctors, the head of one of the departments and an employee of the medical facility valued their “services” at USD 4,000. With these funds, they undertook to prepare for the “client” medical documents regarding the limitation of his fitness for service due to his health condition, which would provide grounds for further military service in units that do not directly participate in hostilities.
On January 18, law enforcement officers detained the perpetrator in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine during her receipt of part of the illegal benefit in the amount of 3,700 US dollars. The court chose a preventive measure for the detainee – detention with the possibility of posting bail.
Today, February 1, the court also chose a preventive measure for the second doctor in the form of detention.
The investigators informed both of them about the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 3 of Article 368 (Acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of undue benefit by an official)
of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a period of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years, with confiscation of property.
