An entrepreneur is in the dock for land contamination with toxic waste in Sambir district
Prosecutors of the Sambir District Prosecutor’s Office have sent to court an indictment against a 36-year-old local businessman on charges of land contamination with substances harmful to the environment as a result of violation of special rules, which caused environmental hazard (Part 1 of Article 239 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
An entrepreneur from Sambir district is in the dock for polluting land with toxic waste
The investigation established that in March 2024, in Sambir district, the accused, without the permits required by law, transported waste containing toxic oil products. In particular, he used a car equipped with a tank.
In this way, the man allowed the land to be contaminated, which led to an excess of the standard content of harmful substances, creating a danger to the environment – for people, pets and wildlife. In addition, the right-bank floodplain of the Dniester River was damaged.
Prosecutors filed a claim with the court to compensate the defendants in full for the damage caused.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Sambir District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region.
Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person shall be presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
