Death of a 13-Year-Old Boy from Kyiv at a Ski Resort in Stryi District: Police Investigate Details

Law enforcement in the Lviv region is investigating the tragic death of a 13-year-old boy at a ski resort in the Stryi district. A criminal case has been opened to assess whether the resort’s management complied with regulations for the arrangement, safe operation, and maintenance of ski slopes.

The incident occurred on January 8 at 2:30 PM at one of the region’s resorts.

According to preliminary findings, the deceased, a resident of Kyiv, was vacationing with his family. While skiing downhill, he exceeded his speed limit, lost control, and crashed into a directional safety net, falling and sustaining a severe head injury. Despite efforts by the on-site medical team, the boy succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Following the incident, investigators from Police Department No. 3 of the Stryi District Police, under the procedural guidance of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, initiated a criminal case under Part 2, Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Intentional Homicide) with the note “accidental death.”

During the pretrial investigation, authorities will examine whether the resort management adhered to safety regulations for ski slope installation and operation.
