Former patrol officer who hit woman in Sheptytskyi and fled to Poland extradited to Ukraine

A former patrol police officer has been extradited from Poland to Ukraine after being accused of hitting a woman with his car and fleeing the country. The incident took place in Sheptytskyi in January 2021.

According to the investigation, the officer was driving an Audi and exceeded the speed limit by nearly twice the allowed amount. He hit a woman who was crossing the street.

Despite the woman suffering serious injuries — including a fractured femur, closed head trauma, multiple wounds, and bruises — the officer did not call an ambulance. Instead, he drove to his garage and attempted to conceal evidence of the accident. Later, he crossed the state border to avoid criminal liability.

The suspect was placed on an international wanted list and located in Poland. He was detained and extradited back to Ukraine.

The former officer is charged with:

  • violating road safety rules, which resulted in moderate bodily harm;
  • knowingly leaving a person in life-threatening condition without assistance.

Under Ukrainian law, he faces up to two years of imprisonment or restriction of freedom. While awaiting trial, the court ordered him to be held in custody.
