Lviv Resident Detained with 10 kg of Narcotic Tea

An 18-year-old man was detained in Lviv with 10 kg of narcotic tea.

According to the investigation, the young man ordered a wholesale batch of the narcotic substance kratom via Telegram. Last November, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine banned the circulation of kratom. Despite this, the man acquired the prohibited substance for further distribution. He received the order by mail but was unable to sell it as he was detained by law enforcement officers.

During the inspection, 10 packages of kratom with a total weight of almost 10 kg were found in the parcel. Under the procedural guidance of the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of Lviv, the detained was charged with illegal acquisition and storage with intent to sell narcotic substances in particularly large amounts. A preventive measure in the form of custody with the right to post bail was chosen for him.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 of the Main Department of the National Police in the Lviv region.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a verdict of the court.
