Sambir Resident Sentenced for Fatal Assault

In Sambir, a 46-year-old local resident has been sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison for intentional grievous bodily harm that led to a man’s death. This sentence was passed for events in 2015 when a conflict broke out between men in the town centre. At the height of the argument, the defendant, while intoxicated, delivered several blows to the victim’s face and then continued to kick him on the torso. As a result of the injuries sustained, the victim died the next day in the hospital. This was reported by the Prosecutor’s Office of Lviv.

After the attack, the perpetrator fled the scene, but was soon apprehended by law enforcement at an intersection. However, during the court proceedings, the man fled to Poland and evaded the court for 8 years. Nonetheless, his return to Ukraine went unnoticed — the authorities detained him, and the trial resumed. He is currently in custody pending the enforcement of the verdict, which is expected after the expiration of the appeal period.
