Resident of Brody to be tried for attempted murder of a soldier

Prosecutors of the Zolochiv District Prosecutor’s Office have submitted an indictment to the court against a 48-year-old man accused of attempting to murder a serviceman using a grenade.

Investigation established that last year, on November 10, a resident of Brody, in a state of alcohol intoxication, went to the home of a 40-year-old soldier who was on leave. A quarrel ensued between them over borrowed construction equipment. When the soldier tried to leave to avoid conflict, the accused took out a grenade and threw it at him.

“Thanks to military training, the victim managed to jump aside and hide behind an earth mound”, investigators reported. This saved his life. After the explosion, the victim called the police, and the attacker fled the scene. However, he was quickly detained by law enforcement under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Currently, the suspect is in custody and charged with completed attempted premeditated murder and illegal handling of explosive devices (part 2 of Article 15 – item 5 of part 2 of Article 115, part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The pre-trial investigation is conducted by police investigators No. 1 of Zolochiv District, Lviv Region.
