The organiser of the illegal border crossing channel, a 30-year-old resident of Lviv, devised a scheme for travelling outside official checkpoints, charging 13,000 US dollars per person. He was apprehended while receiving the payment.
This illegal channel was uncovered in February thanks to a joint operation by law enforcement. It involved operatives from the 7th and 27th border detachment, migration police, Lviv district police department No.1 of the National Police in Lviv region, and the ‘Dozor’ special unit under the leadership of the regional prosecutor’s office.
The suspect provided client support from the initial contact and briefing to route planning through the Transcarpathian region. For an additional 700 dollars, he offered transport to the border area. The case has now been referred to court, where he faces 7 to 9 years in prison with confiscation of property.
