Following a public prosecution by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, three Ukrainian citizens were found guilty of high treason, participation in a terrorist organization and activities of armed groups not provided for by law (Art. 111, parts 1 and 2, Art. 258-3, part 1, Art. 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
They were sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The prosecutor proved in court that the residents of Donetsk and Luhansk regions voluntarily sided with the enemy in 2014 and 2022. They joined the illegal armed groups of the “people’s police” of the DNR and LNR terrorist organizations.
It should be noted that one of them left his position as a patrol inspector to do so.
He served in one of the military intelligence units. The man took part in the forceful and armed seizure of administrative buildings in Donetsk region.
The other two defendants were enlisted in the 3rd separate motorized rifle brigade ‘Berkut’, military unit 08803 and 1st squad of 3rd platoon, 3rd company, 2nd battalion, 202nd rifle regiment, respectively. One of the men was a company commander, the other was a rifleman.

In addition, the defendants ensured the security of the Russian army’s locations in the territories they seized. The resident of Luhansk region ensured order and access control at checkpoints, as well as inspected vehicles and checked civilians’ documents.
From the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the ex-patrolman fought in the cities of Mariupol and Vuhledar on the side of the aggressor country, while the other defendants fought in the settlements of Kharkiv region.
The special pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the State Bureau of Investigations in Lviv city, based on the materials of the SBU Office in Lviv region and the Main Department of Internal and Personal Security “West” of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
